Qatar, a leading airline in the Middle East has followed in the same suit as Etihad and begun to target India for their expansion. The airline will increase the frequency of flights in to the country, in a bid to target a profitable piece of the travel market and expand their services to more customers.
The expansion will see a 20% rise in flights to the country. An increase of 14 flights each week will be placed on routes to places like Amritsar. The Doha to Delhi route will add flights to make the service a twice daily route.
Qatar airways understands that India is one of the biggest markets. India offers an extensive amount of potential destinations, with the airline flying to 11 cities in India daily already. The number of flights to India are equivalent to 10% of Qatar’s international flights.
Etihad has already targeted the large Indian market, with an announcement last week to confirm this. The country has now become top priority for Etihad’s market. With these airlines providing more flights to and from India, those flying outbound will have the option of choosing other airlines, rather than be limited to choosing solely an Indian airline.
With the growing economy and established travel organisations in India, the amount of outbound and inbound traffic is said to increase drastically in the next 10 years.
