British Airways have been running an all business class route from Heathrow airport in London, to JFK airport in New York for around a year. The route has become one of the more popular and successful routes for British Airways’ business class service. As a result, Chief Executive, Willie Walsh has expressed an interest in a significant expansion of their business class service, that would see numerous additional cities and routes added to the service.
“The route has exceeded our expectations. We are now looking at adding capacity to this route and introducing new cities, like Boston and Washington, to this service,” Mr Walsh said.
These improvements to the British Airways’ business class service will coincide with previously mentioned intentions the airline has, to consolidate other successful airlines. British Airways and Iberia airlines will merge next year to form a group called IAG that will allow these consolidations to take place.
Speculations are currently developing, about which airlines are the ones to be taken over. However, possible additional routes to the British Airways and business class service, indicates that Latin America could be a potential target market. With Mr Walsh expressing wishes to “take advantage of Iberia’s strong links to Latin America.”
“There is a lot of passenger growth in Asia and Latin America,” he added.
