Qatar Airways has unveiled new Business and Economy Class seats for its Boeing 787 aircraft, which will be introduced into the fleet this summer.
The new Qatar Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner features a total of 254 seats, with 22 in Business Class and 232 in Economy, and will make its debut on the Doha-Heathrow route.
The airline showcased the new Business Class seat on the opening day of ITB Berlin, the world’s largest travel fair.
The Business Class cabin is configured with a 1-2-1 layout, meaning each passenger is guaranteed direct aisle access. The seats also offer double the space of those in existing Business Class cabins, with a 22-inch wide armchair that offers considerably more legroom.
The armchair converts into different cradle positions, before extending into an 80-inch long, 30-inch wide fully flat bed. To make the experience more comfortable, the armrests can be adjusted to different heights according to the passenger’s body position.
Each Business Class seat has an elegant wood trim large sliding table, providing ample room for guests to dine and work. When dinner is served, passengers can easily rest their laptops on the side table.
There is a show drawer and side compartment for personal belongings, as well as a 17-inch personal touch screen TV for watching the latest movies and television shows.
Throughout both cabin classes, Qatar Airways will also introduce award-winning touch screen Android technology control units, allowing passengers to navigate easily through more than 1,000 entertainment options, just like using a smartphone.
The touch-screen control unit has a dual screen interface which means passengers can play games on their handheld device, whilst watching a movie on their personal TV screen.
With WIFI and GSM telephony options, all passengers on-board the 787 will be able to keep in touch with the ground via text or MMS messages. In addition to laptop power outlets, every seat is equipped with USB, MP3 and other charger ports. Guests can connect their iPods or iPhones to the iPort connectors and view their content on the TV at their seat.
Speaking at ITB Berlin, Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said: “As we prepare to take delivery of our first Boeing 787 just months away, we are delighted to announce today a whole new passenger travel experience with the unveiling of our brand new seats that will be on-board the world’s newest aircraft.
“Space, comfort and ensuring our passengers have the best on-board entertainment options are key elements of our new Boeing 787s, promising to set new benchmarks in air travel. Qatar Airways has taken a lot of time and effort in ensuring we are true leaders in the field rather than followers, meticulously working with manufacturers on specific seat design and features.
“The 787 aircraft architecture is such that a lot of attention has been placed by Boeing on spacious cabins, which we are maximising to ensure our passengers get what they pay for – value for money and a great travel experience.”
Qatar Airways is the first airline in the Middle East to order the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The airline has a total of 60 on order, with five due for delivery this year.
