Getting to and from Colombo airport
Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport is situated some 35 kilometres north of the city centre, in the neighbouring city of Negombo. While many passengers choose to overnight in Negombo on their way to or from the airport, the town is of little of interest to tourists.
While plenty of taxi operators can be found in the airport terminal, you can order a taxi through the mobile ride-share app, Uber. Rides are available 24/7 and cost a maximum of £30 to get into the city. A taxi ride will take between 45 and 90 minutes due to traffic and badly maintained roads.
If you have no luggage, you can take the public bus although these are often cramped or delayed. If you do decide to take the bus, make sure you board the express, air-conditioned service number “187-E03”, which bypasses much of Colombo’s traffic.
