The Emirates A380 is due to land at Manchester Airport today and the Civil Aviation Authority has officially certified Manchester Airport as ‘A380 ready’.
The airport joined a select group of only 17 global airports to be certified and Manchester will be the first regional airport in the World to have a regular service by an A380. Thousands of people will flock to Manchester International Airport today (1st September) to see the superjumbo touchdown.
Manchester Airport has invested more than £10 million in upgrading their airfield and facilities to meet the needs of the luxury A380. Workers at Manchester airport have spent the last 18 months reconstructing a new aircraft stand with state of the art equipment including an advance docking system, which guides the pilot onto the stand and into the correct position for the unique double airbridge to connect. The airport has also opened a new pre-boarding lounge to accommodate the 517 passengers the new Emirates A380 will have onboard.
Due to the sheer size of the aircraft, taxiways have had to be widened, realigned and enforced at junctions and turns as well as perimeter fences and over fifty airfield signs moved further away so the super jumbo can pass safely. The airport has also invested in two new fire-fighting vehicles with ladders that would be able to reach all levels of the aircraft in the event of an emergency.
The twin-decked airliner is the most environmentally advanced aircraft in the sky, with better fuel economy and generating much less noise upon take-off.
The Emirates A380 has an Onboard Lounge for First Class and Business Class passengers where they can relax, socialise and enjoy drinks and canapés. At the front of First Class there is another social area with water feature.
The whole of the upper deck is dedicated to premium passengers. First Class passengers are treated to Private Suites with massage-equipped flat-beds and onboard shower spas, which are a world first. The suites have remote-controlled doors, a work desk, an electrically controlled mini-bar and ‘Ice’, the most advanced in-flight entertainment system.
In Business Class, all seats convert into fully-flat beds and have aisle access. Before boarding at Manchester, premium passengers will also be able to enjoy the newly-opened Emirates Lounge.
Cabins in all class have an advanced mood lighting system, complete with a starlit sky, which adjusts throughout the flight to reflect the time at the destination.
