British Airways has announced its new First Class will be available on some flights from mid-2011, including flights to Australia. The airline has invested £100 million in the new First Class product, which will be available on the First Class fleets in the next couple of months.
The airline is promoting the makeover of its First Class product with a marketing campaign featuring British celebrity actress Rachel Weisz. The carrier said the design of the new cabin is inspired by premium British automotive brands like Aston Martin and Jaguar.
The carrier announced it is in the process of rolling out the new product on planes offering First Class, saying “as more aircrafts are fitted with the new First Class, we can expect to see it more often on Australian routes”
The cream, simplistic design will make passengers feel like they’re travelling on a private jet rather than a commercial airline. To improve personal comfort, British Airways has taken on passenger feedback to add thoughtful practical touches in its First Class Suites, including unique personal windows with the first electronic blinds on-board a commercial aircraft to span two windows. The lie-flat seats are 60% wider at the shoulder and the suite has a lighting system that can recreate natural light throughout the day, creating a relaxing ambience. Passengers can hang up their business suits in their own personal wardrobe and spread their work out on a leather bound writing table, which converts into a dining table.
When passengers feel sleepy they can put on their complimentary soft cotton pyjamas and a member of crew will make up the bed with a single–piece quilted mattress, crisp white 400–thread Egyptian cotton duvet and pillow. First Class customers are also provided with and exclusively designed Anya Hindmarch bag containing well–being products from D.R. Harris & Co such as eye gel, lip balm and moisturiser. First Class passengers can settle back and watch movies on a 15 inch widescreen TV with their complimentary noise cancelling headset.
The First Class dinner menu alters month to month according to the ingredients that are in season. Guests are offered a chilled champagne cocktail whilst they peruse the dishes on the menu, created in collaboration with some of the world’s top chefs.
If passengers are busy working they can have their meal placed next to them on a side table, or they can dine formally as if they were in a restaurant. The table is dressed with crisp white linen and fine bone china. On flights from the UK, customers can also opt for the fresh seafood “Catch of the Day”, supplied by Scottish company Loch Fyne. There is also a lighter, less formal Bistro service offering salads, soups, pasta and hot sandwiches.
Britain is known for its love of tea, especially traditional afternoon tea. A highlight of the British Airways First Class experience is their afternoon tea, a signature service on-board the airline. British Airways took inspiration from the iconic London hotel The Dorchester to offer a selection of finely cut sandwiches and sumptuous cakes, served with a choice of teas from around the world.
Breakfast in the First Class cabin features a choice of heavier meals and lighter options and if you would like to carry on sleeping, you can opt for a continental Light Breakfast closer to landing.
The British Airways website states, “We’re in the process of rolling out new First across our fleet and aiming to complete the embodiment in spring 2012. So over the coming months you will be able to enjoy the finest in contemporary British sophistication, understated elegance and exceptional quality of service when you travel in our new First.”
